15th June – Handling Difficult Questions and Interviewers
Interviews can vary greatly between an informal one-to-one ‘chat’ to a highly formal ‘panel’ interview. Interviewers can equally vary from a friendly and approachable one to a highly functional and distant one (and anything in between!). Preparation and planning beforehand will help you to feel confident about handling an interview with all its variations. A key preparation is to reflect on which questions you find personally difficult and decide how you can handle those questions in a positive and winning way which will counteract any negative perceptions the interviewer may have.
In the session we will share experiences and offer suggestions for how difficult questions can be handled. We will also look at handling difficult interviewers. This session is a good preparation for subsequent sessions where we will be conducting ‘mock’ interviews.
